What is this study about?

The U-RESPOND study aims to improve the NHS Lung Cancer Screening programme. We want to understand what people think about lung screening, including newer methods like blood tests. Your feedback will help us make screening services better and more accessible for everyone.

Why have I been invited?

We need to hear from people with a range of experiences. You have been invited because you are in one of two important groups:

  • You have attended a Lung Health Check.
  • You were invited to a Lung Health Check but chose not to attend.

Your unique viewpoint is essential for us to get a complete picture.

Is participation voluntary?

Absolutely. Taking part is completely your choice. Your decision will not affect your current or future medical care in any way. You are free to stop at any time without giving a reason.

What's involved?

If you agree to take part, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire. This is a non-commercial, NHS-led study to help improve future screening services. Some questions will ask you to make choices between different hypothetical test options. These may include questions about 'cost' to help us understand what people value most. Please be reassured this is a standard research method and there is no plan to charge for NHS screening.

Time Commitment

It takes about 20 minutes to complete.

How to Complete

You can do it online or over the phone.

Are there benefits?

While there's no direct benefit to you, your valuable input will help improve lung cancer screening for future generations.

Are there risks?

There are no risks. We only ask for about 20 minutes of your time. You don't have to answer any question you're not comfortable with.

How is my information kept confidential?

Your personal details will be stored securely and kept separate from your questionnaire answers. Your answers will be linked only by a unique participant ID. The file linking your ID to your personal details will be held securely at one site. Once you have consented or declined to participate, your personal contact information will be deleted from our records.
